The first dish I tried from the book was one I'd never had before, Spaghetti Carbonara (a basic dish not to have eaten, I know), and even through my inexperience I'm certain that something is wrong with this recipe. Since I made it, trashed it, and ordered burritos from a place up the hill too fast to photograph the dish, we're going to play a picture game. Ready?
See if you can guess which flavor component resulted in the carbonara making its way into the garbage bin!

Now see if you can figure out how I felt about buying that fancy cookbook and spending a bunch of time making the recipe only to discover that it tastes like owl pellets!

I could not have summed that dish up better than you just did.
Wow, that's sad. It was looking so promising there...
Honestly, if you reviewed for my news paper, I would actually read it before chewing it up and adding it to my ever growing man cocoon.
I was super excited about this dish. Even after it was finished I kept taking little bites hoping that maybe I'd just been testing the wrong, I don't know, quadrant of this enormous mass of pasta. But no matter which sector I traveled to, it all tasted like flat soda and rice.
